Rodrigo Amarante - Cavalo "Reissue" (Limited Edition on Neon Orange Vinyl)
Debut solo album from Rodrigo Amarante. A member of Devendra Banhart's live band and founding member of Brazilian / American rock supergroup Little Joy (alongside The Strokes drummer Fabrizio Moretti and Binki Shapiro), Cavalo is a bold, honest and deeply personal album that chronicles Amarante's exile from Brazil to the USA. Amarante has lived in Los Angeles for the past six years and Cavalo radiates with a distinctly hazy, West Coast vibe, unfolding with a loose, dream-like quality where songs of different moods, languages and tempos bleed into each other: album opener 'Nada Em Vao' echoes with seductive-somnambulance, 'Hourglass' is a driven-psychedelic-stomper, 'Mon Nom' a sun-dappled French-language folk-tronic waltz whilst 'The Ribbon' radiates with a mesmerising celestial-ambience.
Cavalo radiates an honest intimacy that seduces the listener, drawing comparison with the more atmospheric offerings from David Crosby, Bon Iver and Cat Power. In Brazil Amarante is revered as e of the members of Brazil's most popular alternative band of the 90s, Los Hermanos who exploded to the scene, single-handedly creating Brazil's contemporary alternative-indie scene, whilst selling millions of albums along the way.
